Anti-Cannibalization
The Anti-Cannibalization tool detects when multiple pages on your site target the same or overlapping keywords.
Overview
Keyword cannibalization occurs when two or more pages compete for the same search query, diluting your rankings. UniSync detects and helps resolve these conflicts.
How It Works
The system analyzes:
- Published post titles and content
- Target keywords assigned to each post
- Keyword overlap between posts
- SERP ranking positions (when available)
Detection
UniSync flags cannibalization when:
- Two posts target the same primary keyword
- Posts have significant keyword overlap (>70% similarity)
- Multiple posts rank for the same SERP query
Resolution Strategies
When cannibalization is detected, consider:
| Strategy | When to Use |
|---|---|
| Merge | Combine two thin articles into one comprehensive post |
| Differentiate | Adjust one post to target a different angle or long-tail |
| Canonical | Set a canonical URL to tell search engines which page to prioritize |
| Redirect | 301 redirect the weaker post to the stronger one |
| Deindex | Remove the weaker post from search engine indexing |
Prevention
UniSync prevents cannibalization proactively:
- Keyword Registry tracks all targeted keywords globally
- Content Dedup Guard (Pipeline Phase 3.6) filters duplicates before generation
- Keyword Plans show warnings when keywords overlap with existing content
